Tequilas and Mezcals

Tequila is a Mezcal but Mezcal is not a tequila. To save you the confusion we have grouped them all together. Over 150 tequilas and mezcals make up our current listings but we seem to keep adding to this list every week as this growing category is becoming popular world over. When it comes to tequila, there is way more to it than meets the eye. While margaritas are objectively delicious, tequila can be used for other cocktails and enjoyed neat or on the rocks. Depending on how you plan to drink it will help you decide what bottle to go for at the liquor store. Who of us could ever forget our first tequila shot, for most it would have been a cheap version of this product probably a blanco tequila with salt and a wedge of lemon or lime. For many of us we’d prefer to forget those memories as many hangovers can be blamed on those shots.

Tequila has come a long way, and those scary memories should not put you off from trying out some of the refined tequilas now available from our stores and for the more adventurous a mezcal is definitely worth a sampling. Muddler has an extensive library of these including a bunch of Patron’s, Codigos, Fortalezas and Sierras. South African distillers are also beginning to make inroads into this spirit with the likes of Leonista, Hope distillery and others. We know that there may be some trepidation venturing into this dangerous corner of the bar but by the time you leave you will be screaming Viva tequila! Viva Mezcal! Even if it is while standing on the bar in your underwear…
